Kozyak Fortress in Obzor

Obzor is not just a popular seaside resort that has attracted tourists from all over the country for years. It is also a place that has stood the test of time and earned its name with pride. The town offers a variety of attractions, including the medieval Kozyak Fortress, Cape Emine, and the nearby village of Emona.
Kozyak Fortress is located about 3 kilometers west of Obzor, near the area known as Kaleto. Today, only ruins remain, but in the past, it was a massive structure consisting of two main parts. In the 19th century, it served as a docking point for small cargo ships (gemi), as much of the nearby coastline was difficult to access.
Cape Emine, once known by its ancient name Emona, marks the easternmost point of the Balkan Mountains (Stara Planina). The cape rises dramatically—60 meters high—and stretches far out into the sea. In the past, a church and fortress stood on its cliffs. Today, a lighthouse guides ships safely through this part of the Black Sea.
Just 2 kilometers from Cape Emine, the small village of Emona is nestled in the hills. According to legend, this is the birthplace of the Thracian king Rhesus. Today, the village is home to only about 20 residents, but its antique charm and authenticity speak volumes about the region’s ancient past.
